Program Overview

Your Semester in Amman program lasts a full semester and is designed for students from all academic backgrounds. You will enroll in a combination of CIEE courses, host institution courses, and courses taught online through CIEE's global academic partner, ASU. Enhance your experience with co-curricular and extracurricular activities while immersing yourself in Jordanian culture. Live and learn in Amman!

Housing

CIEE Amman offers various housing options, including homestays or shared apartments, located in neighborhoods with convenient access to the center of Amman. Homestays are situated in different parts of the city and vary in distance from CIEE Amman. Apartments are roughly 15 minutes from downtown and other lively parts of the city but are a bit further from CIEE Amman (around 45 minutes).

Activities

CIEE’s excursions and cultural activities in Amman will open doors for you to explore Jordan's rich diversity, language, culture, history, and timeless beauty in ways that will enhance your time abroad.

Samples of past excursions and activities:

Visit one of the New Wonders of the World, Petra (known as the Rose City), and marvel at its ancient rock-cut architecture and stunning desert landscapes
Hike through Jordan's beautiful Ajloun Forest Reserve, where you'll discover Mediterranean-like woodlands filled with oak, pine, and pistachio trees
Take a day trip to historical site Madaba, famous for its Byzantine-era churches

Please note: Activities are based on past programs and subject to change at CIEE's discretion to adapt to local circumstances and participant feedback. Our goal when arranging activities is always to enhance your experience.

Academics

CIEE Amman: Study in a student-friendly neighborhood nestled in a traditional area of the city, offering a unique and special opportunity to interact with locals. CIEE Amman boasts three main classrooms, a library, a study space, a reception area, and public computers students can use as needed.

Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT): PSUT was founded in 1991 and is the only private and nonprofit university in Jordan. It is owned by the Royal Scientific Society (RSS), the foremost applied research center in Jordan. Students can take courses at three different schools under PSUT.

King Hussein School of Computing Sciences is a leading academic institution specializing in computer science, information technology, and cybersecurity education and research.

King Abdullah II School of Engineering is a prominent engineering faculty known for its comprehensive programs, research excellence, and commitment to innovation and technological advancement.

King Talal School of Business Technology offers innovative, technology-focused business programs and has achieved international recognition, including AACSB accreditation, placing it among the top 5% of business schools worldwide.

Arizona State University (ASU): Brought to you by CIEE in partnership with ASU, enhance your international coursework with online classes that align with your degree requirements. ASU offers thousands of online courses in asynchronous 7.5-week sessions that fit within the CIEE academic calendar.

GAIN Travel Grants - Up to $1,500 toward travel costs guaranteed to students with a FAFSA SAI of $10,000 or less. Higher should still apply!

Gilman Go Global Grants - Up to $2,500/semester, $1,500/quarter, and $1,000 guaranteed to Benjamin A Gilman International Scholarship applicants.

Merit-Based Scholarships - Up to $2,500/semester, $1,500/quarter, and $750/summer awarded to students deomonstrating high academic achievement.
