Program Overview

Your Semester in Florence program lasts a full semester and is designed for students from all academic backgrounds. You will enroll in a combination of CIEE courses, host institution courses, and courses taught online through CIEE's global academic partner, ASU. Enhance your experience with co-curricular and extracurricular activities while immersing yourself in Italian culture. Live and learn in Florence!

Activities

CIEE’s excursions and cultural activities in Florence will open doors for you to explore Italy's rich diversity, language, culture, history, and timeless beauty in ways that will enhance your time abroad.

Samples of past excursions and activities:

Visit a traditional working vineyard and olive grove, with an in-depth description of wine and oil production, promotion, and distribution
Learn to prepare typical, seasonal Florentine dishes
Visit smaller historical cities in Tuscany such as Lucca, Siena, or Volterra

Please note: Activities are based on past programs and subject to change at CIEE's discretion to adapt to local circumstances and participant feedback. Our goal when arranging activities is always to enhance your experience.

Academics

CIEE Florence: Study in beautiful Palazzina Marchi, site of CIEE’s Study Center on Piazza della Indipendenza. The Center is perfectly located – near the University of Florence, Florence University of the Arts (FUA), San Lorenzo Market and the tram to the airport as well as the train station. In addition to the beautiful piazza, students will find a Viennese cafe and bakery, a Lebanese diner and two delicious vegetarian restaurants all on one block!

Florence University of the Arts (FUA-AUF): The American University of Florence is an Italian Institute of Higher Education accredited and authorized by the Region of Tuscany to conduct approved formative educational courses. FUA-AUF is a free-standing, private, non-denominational institution.

Arizona State University (ASU): Brought to you by CIEE in partnership with ASU, enhance your international coursework with online classes that align with your degree requirements. ASU offers thousands of online courses in asynchronous 7.5-week sessions that fit within the CIEE academic calendar.

GAIN Travel Grants - Up to $1,500 toward travel costs guaranteed to students with a FAFSA SAI of $10,000 or less. Higher should still apply!

Gilman Go Global Grants - Up to $2,500/semester, $1,500/quarter, and $1,000 guaranteed to Benjamin A Gilman International Scholarship applicants.

Merit-Based Scholarships - Up to $2,500/semester, $1,500/quarter, and $750/summer awarded to students deomonstrating high academic achievement.
