Program Overview

Your CIEE Summer Intern and Study Abroad program in Auckland lasts 6 weeks and features three key components: A part-time internship with a local organization (15-20 hours per week), an internship seminar, and a 3-credit academic course taught online through CIEE’s global academic partner ASU. Enhance your experience with co-curricular and extracurricular activities while building career skills, expanding your professional network, and immersing yourself in New Zealand culture. Live, learn, and work in Auckland!

CIEE’s excursions and cultural activities in Auckland will open doors for you to explore New Zealand’s rich diversity, language, culture, history, contemporary trends, vibrant art, and timeless beauty in ways that will enhance your time abroad.

Samples of past excursions and activities:

  • Marvel at the stars with a free visit to Stardome Observatory's planetarium demonstrations of the constellations over our heads and learn about Pacific celestial traditions
  • Take a ferry to Rangitoto Island, Auckland's iconic volcanic gem, and hike through lush landscapes to explore its unique volcanic terrain
  • Visit Auckland's west coast to explore stunning black sand beaches and rugged wilderness trails

Arizona State University (ASU): Brought to you by CIEE in partnership with ASU, enhance your international coursework with online classes that align with your degree requirements. ASU offers thousands of online courses in asynchronous 6-week sessions that fit within the CIEE academic calendar.

GAIN Travel Grants - Up to $1,500 toward travel costs guaranteed to students with a FAFSA SAI of $10,000 or less. Higher should still apply!

Gilman Go Global Grants - Up to $2,500/semester, $1,500/quarter, and $1,000 guaranteed to Benjamin A Gilman International Scholarship applicants.

Merit-Based Scholarships - Up to $2,500/semester, $1,500/quarter, and $750/summer awarded to students deomonstrating high academic achievement.
