Bahrain: Royal University for Women Spring Break Program
As part of the WVU-RUW partnership we will be sending a group of 7-8 students to the Royal University for Women over spring break.  We will need to purchase medical insurance and the airfare.  RUW will pay for accommodation and some meals.  This will be a 1-credit program offered in collaboration with the Honors College and Ryan Claycomb has developed a list of assignments for the students.  They will be accompanied by 2 chaperones.  We are working on finalizing the program details, but they will include the following:

Information: Riffa is the second largest city in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Riffa is divided into two parts; East Riffa and West Riffa. The city is mainly located in the Central Governorate, while smaller parts are in the Southern Governorate.

HONR 499: Global Service Learning: Bahrain

This section of HONR 499 is reserved specifically for students who will be representing WVU and the Honors College at the Royal University for Women in Riffa, Bahrain.  Students will travel to Bahrain during Spring Break to meet with students and representatives from RUW, learn about Middle Eastern culture, engage in cross-cultural discussion, and communicate about their experiences to WVU constituencies. 

During the week, students will: 

Interact with student government
Sit in on classes to observe
Participate in two informal debates
Meet with US Embassy
Dinner with a local host family
Take part in a presentation about student life at WVU
Observe a RUW student presentation about student life at RUW
Take a tour of Manama, site of the University and visit important sites in and near the city

Billing for the  programs will occur upon registration into the courses associated with the Education Abroad program in STAR. The payment deadlines for the program will be the same as WVU Semester Tuition and Fees. Students will receive correspondence from the Office of Global Affairs with registration instructions upon acceptance into the program after the application deadline. All payments are due in full before trip departure. Payments can be made through STAR or by contacting the Mountaineer Hub at (304) 293-4006.
