Jamaica: Engineering Global Service Learning in the Caribbean
JamaicaThis is a study-abroad service-learning course, designed to engage students in engineering education activities through practical, real-world service-learning experiences while introducing them to the culture, society and history of Jamaica. The objective of this project-based course is to prepare students for global citizenship by providing international civic engagement opportunities in multicultural and multidisciplinary settings. The students will collaborate on site with established in-country partners.

Information: Montego Bay, the capital of St. James Parish on Jamaica’s north coast, is a major cruise ship port with numerous beach resorts and golf courses outside its commercial core. Popular beaches include Doctor’s Cave Beach and Walter Fletcher Beach, home to an amusement park. There’s snorkeling and diving at coral reefs in the protected waters of Montego Bay Marine Park.

Students are responsible for their own passport and visa expenses.

Billing for the summer 2017 programs will occur upon registration into the courses associated with the Education Abroad program in STAR. The payment deadlines for the program will be the same as WVU Summer Semester Tuition and Fees. Registration will occur in mid-March, students will receive correspondence from OGA with registration instructions upon acceptance into the program after the application deadline. All payments are due in full before trip departure. Payments can be made through STAR or by contacting the Mountaineer HUB at (304) 293-4006.
