Due to the turbulent history of cultural and religious clashes, Sarajevo is the world’s most applicable place to study conflict resolution and peace-building. Students can learn first-hand about conflict, reconciliation, human rights, resilience, war crimes, and genocide. In addition, students will visit different historic sites and do internships in relevant international and national organizations. This program also includes exciting educational and fun excursions through the most beautiful places in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Key points of the program are meetings, Q&As, and seminars that students will have with BiH politicians, NGO representatives and diplomatic community.

Information: Sarajevo is the capital and largest city in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Sarajevo has attracted international atten-tion several times throughout its history. In 1914, it was the site of the assassination that sparked World War I, while, seventy years later, it became the host city of the 1984 Winter Olympics, and eight years after that it be-came known as the location of the longest city siege in modern history. The city is famous for its traditional religious diversity, with adherents of Islam, Eastern Orthodoxy, Catholi-cism, and Judaism coexisting there for centuries. Due to this long and rich history of religious diversity and coexistence, Sarajevo has often been called the ‘’Jerusa-lem of Europe.’’

Take an opportunity to study in Sarajevo and on weekends visit Vienna, Budapest, Prague, Rome or Istanbul which are just one hour of flying away from Sarajevo.

During the eight weeks summer program, students get a chance to visit different sites and talk to professionals and experts in the field of study, in addition to taking 5 courses (equal to 15 WVU credits) and doing internship in relevant international and national organizations. These 5 courses are:

-Balkan History
-Balkan Security
-State Building/Peace Building
-Genocide, War Crimes and Transitional Justice
-Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian Language

Summer program Peace and Conflict is taught in English. Field trips and internship are an integral part of the program, as well as five academic courses which will help you to gain knowledge, feel the dynamics of the country, culture and its place in the region. 

Summer program Peace and Conflict is open to bachelor, master and PhD students.

You can enjoy an extremely low cost of living from housing to food and entertainment while studying at American University in Bosnia and Herzegovina. WVU Student Costs:
Study Abroad Tuition and Fees totaling $300 will be charged. Students will be automatically enrolled in the ISOS emergency assistance provider and comprehensive travel and health insurance policy. 

Billing for the programs will occur upon registration into the courses associated with the Education Abroad program in STAR. The payment deadlines for the program will be the same as WVU  Semester Tuition and Fees. Students will receive correspondence from OGA with registration instructions upon acceptance into the program after the application deadline. All payments are due in full before trip departure. Payments can be made through STAR or by contacting the Mountaineer HUB.
