Thailand: Advanced Instrumental Conducting Study
thailand boatsStudents will enroll for a section of MUSC 493 (Special Topics): International Instrumental Conducting Symposium. The academic and cultural experience will facilitate the broadening of understanding of wind band literature in a multicultural context. The Sympoisum will be held at the College of Music, Mahidol University (Salaya, Thailand) and will focus on the development of pedagogy and instrumental ensemble repertoire for mixed winds & percussion addressing both national (US) and international perspectives as they relate to literature selection, score study/preparation, historical and cultural ensemble development, conducting techniques, and rehearsal pedagogy.

Information: Bangkok, Thailand’s capital, is a large city known for ornate shrines and vibrant street life. The boat-filled Chao Phraya River feeds its network of canals, flowing past the Rattanakosin royal district, home to opulent Grand Palace and its sacred Wat Phra Kaew Temple. Nearby is Wat Pho Temple with an enormous reclining Buddha and, on the opposite shore, Wat Arun Temple with its steep steps and Khmer-style spire.

Billing for the summer 2017 programs will occur upon registration into the courses associated with the Education Abroad program in STAR. The payment deadlines for the program will be the same as WVU Summer Semester Tuition and Fees. Registration will occur in mid-April, students will receive correspondence from OGA Contacting the Mountaineer HUB at (304) 293-4006.
