Summer 2017 4-H Program: China Learning Adventures
WHO: 4-H members: Ages 16-21 years od at time of trip
WHEN: Monday June 5th – Thursday June 15th, 2017 (Approximate dates based on airfare)
             Orientation and pre-departure conference calls will be held for registrants and parents
WHERE: Beijing (Capital City) and Taiyuan (Shanxi Province)
COST: $2,400.00
The cost DOES NOT include:
  • passport fees
  • any meals on the day of departure from the Unites States
  • any meals after departure from China
  • any extras that are purchased during travel

Have you always wanted to see another country, experience a different culture, and have a learning adventure with 4-H friends?  You can travel to China in June 2017 with the West Virginia 4-H program “China Learning Adventures.”  Youth ages 16-21 years old can apply for this opportunity.  This exciting trip will take place from June 5th to June 15th 2017.   Cost of the all-inclusive trip is $2,400 including airfare, lodging, meals, cultural learning, and tours in China.

Youth will have the opportunity to visit and learn about sites in the capital city of Beijing such as: the Great Wall, Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, National Theatre (the “Egg”), Olympic Green, National Stadium-Bird’s Nest, and National Aquatics Center (Water Cube).  Youth will meet current and future WV-China Exchange Campers in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province and engage in educational activities including: visiting the Affiliated High School of Shanxi University - Learning about daily student life, making friends with future exchange campers, and engaging in cultural learning.  Taiyuan City – Shanxi Museum, Wuyi  Square, downtown skyscrapers, and the Coal Museum of China.  Jinci Temple - An ancestral temple, founded about 1400 years ago, featuring a variety of architectural styles, collections of well-preserved buildings, and ancient trees.  Mengshan Mountain - 200-ft tall Buddha that is carved out of stone, possibly China's oldest.  Pingyao Ancient City - Declared a UNESCO World Heritage site; historic cultural treasure surrounded by high, stone walls and featuring six city gates with 72 historic watch towers.  Cultural Exchanges: Youth will also have the rare opportunity to learn about local music and entertainment, folk dances, regional food with authentic cooking styles, heritage recipes, historic clothing, and traditional stories from cultural experts.
