Cyprus: Summer Nursing Program

The program is an Education Abroad opportunity specifically for Nursing students, offering a unique opportunity to study international and intercultural nursing, compare European and American healthcare systems, with co-curricular site visits to public and private hospitals and clinics around the country, skills training and simulation labs, and a nursing practicum. Students will receive general and nursing elective credit.

The program includes excursions all around Cyprus, the sunniest country in Europe and safest country in the world, and will be hosted by the University of Nicosia, the largest research university in southern Europe that teaches in English.

Information: Nicosia, also known as Lefkosia, is the divided capital city of Cyprus. South of the border, on the Greek side, the Cyprus Museum has archaeological finds from the Neolithic to Byzantine periods, including the Aphrodite of Soloi statue. Nearby, the old city’s 16th-century Venetian walls include the Famagusta, Kyrenia and Paphos gates. Inside the walls, a marble mausoleum sits next to 19th-century Faneromeni Church.

Students will enroll into 2 WVU Courses for a total of 6 credits hours. These courses are approved as Nursing electives for Nursing majors:

NSG 493B - SPTP: Prov. Nursing Care III - 3 Credit Hours
NSG 493C - SPTP: Global Approaches to the Interprofessional Management of Care - 3 Credit Hours


Dana Friend ( will be instructor of record for the nursing coursework. She will be available while students are abroad but will not be traveling with the students. Students will have local support from Global Learning Semester at the University of Nicosia.

Billing for the summer 2018 programs will occur upon registration into the courses associated with the Study Abroad program in STAR. The payment deadlines for the program will be the same as WVU Summer Semester Tuition and Fees. Students will receive correspondence from Education Abroad with registration instructions upon acceptance into the program after the application deadline. All payments are due in full before trip departure. Payments can be made through STAR or by contacting the Mountaineer HUB at (304) 293-4006.
