Location

India, the world's largest democracy, is home to an ancient, rich and varied civilization. Hyderabad, the state capital of Andhra Pradesh, is the point where Northern and Southern Indian languages meet and where Hindu and Islamic civilizations mingle. Hyderabad's rich tradition in art/poetry, calligraphy, architecture, dance and music is an old regional strength. Modern urban Hyderabad's information technology base, enterprising financial institutions, and trend-setting youth cultures bring this vigor into a new landscape.

Profile

The first Central (federally funded) University to be established in Southern India (in 1974), the University of Hyderabad is a premier postgraduate and research university, with over 300 faculty and 3000 students. It was recognized by the National Information System for Science & Technology in 1999 as the only "High Output-High Impact" university among the top 10 academic institutions in India. The University Grants Commission of India has placed the University of Hyderabad in a group of the nation's top five "Universities with Potential for Excellence". The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has awarded the highest rating (A*****) to the University.

The University's Study in India Program (SIP) is an interdisciplinary initiative that emphasizes heritage, continuity and change in India. The unique aspect of SIP has been that the students' interests have been given primary attention. One-on-one counseling via e-mail, contact prior to arrival and in person, meeting after arrival, provided by the SIP faculty and student counselors, lead to a good match between students' preferences and the courses they take. In some cases, independent studies are devised for SIP students.

ISEP-Exchange programs allow students to participate in reciprocal exchanges with students at ISEP member institutions worldwide, while paying their home university tuition. Students attending US universities that are ISEP-Exchange members are eligible to apply for these programs at other international ISEP-Exchange member universities. Chances of placement vary by location.

ISEP-Direct programs allow students to enroll directly in a host institution abroad, instead of exchanging places with another student. Chances of placement are typically excellent for qualified applicants and some sites offer special academic programs and excursions. Students attending US universities that are either ISEP-Exchange members or ISEP-Direct members can participate in ISEP-Direct programs abroad.
